7 SPIRITUAL WARFARE PRAYERS FOR MARRIED COUPLES

By Mike & Carlie Kercheval

If you’ve been married for any amount of time, then you know how important it is to have spiritual warfare prayers for your marriage. There’s no doubt that what God has joined together, the enemy will try to tear apart and destroy. To help create that extra barrier of protection, so to speak, here are several powerful spiritual warfare prayers for married couples.

What are spiritual warfare prayers?

Before getting to the prayers, let’s first identify what spiritual warfare prayers are in the first place. These prayers are typically targeted at what would be considered areas of difficulty in marriage. No matter the struggle and/or the battle, our fight is not against flesh and blood (our spouse), but against principalities, powers, and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenlies (Ephesians 6).

This is why it’s so important to develop a lifestyle of prayer for your marriage, especially against the attacks and attempts by the enemy.

7 Spiritual Warfare Prayer for Married Couples

Prayer for Focus on God

As the months and years pass, it can become increasingly difficult to keep God first. There are some couples who struggle with idolizing one another, their marriage, their children, their job, and the like. Fight against the trap of not putting God in His rightful place with this prayer:

“Heavenly Father, You are the Great I Am. The maker of heaven and earth. The creator of me and my spouse’s very being. Help us to keep You in Your rightful place in our lives. Convict us in the moments when things begin to get out of alignment. May we have a heart totally devoted to You and may our actions line up with our focus on You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Prayer for Being Equally Yoked

Although you and your spouse may have come into your marriage on one accord, it may not always stay that way. Yes, we each have our own spiritual walks to travel; however, you do want to stay at similar levels in the faith.

“Lord, we come to You asking that You would keep us equally yoked and devoted to living a life for You. We want to be used how You see fit, but we also know that our power comes from You and being equally yoked with one another. Make it evident if one or both of us begin to decrease in our faith in You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Prayer Against Temptation

“Father, we know that temptation is very real and the enemy will often come at us through that door. We bind, seal, and place anything contrary to the love for You and the love of each other at the feet of Jesus for righteous judgment. Protect our eye gates and ear gates so that nothing penetrates and attempts to plant tempting seeds. We thank You for Your divine hedge of protection around the trust we have with each other. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Prayer for Patience

“Lord God, You know better than anyone the level of patience that is needed in marriage. We pray that instead of becoming short-tempered with each other, we would rather see an opportunity for growth and learning. Help us to pay more attention to the needs and desires of each other so we do not miss prime opportunities to love each other more. May we be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Prayer Against Conflict and Strife

“Heavenly Father, my spouse and I know there will be times when we may not always see eye to eye. Help us to see those moments for what they really are. We are not at war with each other but are on the same team. Give us eyes to see when conflict and strife are attempting to drive a wedge between our love for You and love for each other. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Prayer Over Finances

“Lord, the issue of money is one of the top reasons married couples fight and we do not want to fall into that trap. Help us to be wise stewards of all that you give us, especially financially speaking. Give us the trust and openness to discuss financial matters with each other and the courage to talk about anything that would seem to be attacking. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Prayer for Support with Struggles

“Abba Father, we pray specifically for the strength and endurance to support each other with any struggles. Where we may fail or not be a good fit to help each other, please send another godly man for my husband and a woman for my wife who can help lift each of us up. We are thankful for Your help with our struggles as well. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Final Thoughts

Marriage was never intended to be something that you and your spouse need to do alone. We can be thankful and praise the Father for His help and our ability to press the throne room on behalf of anything we need. Pray these spiritual warfare prayers over your marriage as often as you can.
