Stroke: Avoid Excessive Intake of These 3 Things to Prevent the Risk of Being a Victim


When a blood vessel carrying oxygen and nutrients to the brain is blocked or breaks or ruptures, a stroke develops. When this happens, a section of the brain lacks the blood (and oxygen) it requires. This section of the brain and the brain cells it contains perish.

A clot obstructing blood flow to the brain (known as an ischemic stroke) or a blood vessel rupturing and restricting blood flow to the brain (known as a hemorrhagic stroke) are the two main types of stroke. A brief clot causes a TIA, sometimes known as a “mini stroke.”

According to Medicalnewstoday, excessive intake of these three things can raise your risk of having a stroke.

1. Alcohol

According to epidemiological evidence, current excessive alcohol drinking increases the risk of all major forms of stroke, whereas light-to-moderate alcohol consumption is linked to a lower risk of ischemic stroke. Excessive consumption causes high blood pressure.

In experimental animals, alcohol has been shown to cause vasoconstriction and rupture of tiny cerebral arteries. Alcohol-induced neck trauma has been linked to dangerous strokes, and patients with embolic brain infarction have been reported to have alcohol-induced cardiac arrhythmias.

Alcohol’s effects on hemostasis, fibrinolysis, and blood coagulation are remarkable, and it should either prevent or cause strokes. Inhibition of low-density lipoprotein oxidation and higher oestrogen levels should mediate the antiatherogenic effects of regular light-to-moderate alcohol use.

2. Processed Meat

Pastrami, sausage, hot dogs, bacon, or a smoked turkey sandwich, for example, can all increase your stroke risk.

Processed meats put your health at risk in two ways: first, because of the sodium content, and second, because of the preservatives used to keep the meat fresh. Researchers have discovered that sodium nitrate damages blood vessels, causing arteries to stiffen and narrow.

Stroke is no longer the only problem for processed meat eaters; research published in medical publications has connected eating cured and smoked meats to an increased risk of diabetes and cancer.

3. Smoking

A stroke can also be caused by smoking. Toxic compounds in cigarette smoke, such as carbon monoxide, can harm the heart and raise blood pressure. Furthermore, smoking can lead to plaque accumulation in arteries. Plaque buildup can result in blood clots which limit brain blood flow. Smoking makes blood clots more likely.
