One Perspective Shift You Need When You Can’t Change Anything Else

Angel Chernoff

My body sometimes feels sore, but it works. I haven’t slept well in a few nights, but I have been waking up in one piece. My wallet is not full, but my stomach is. I don’t have all the things I’ve ever wanted, but I do have everything I need right now. I’m thankful, because although my life is by no means perfect, it is MY life and I choose to be thankful in it, as I continue to do the best I can.

To a certain extent, I’m sure you can relate.

For all of us, every day, it’s about keeping things in perspective and then letting our perspective inspire the next step forward.

And today, as I was thinking about this, I received an email from a reader named Victoria that opened with a story about a young man she met recently who unexpectedly shifted her perspective (I’m sharing this with permission):

“This past weekend I volunteered at my alma mater and gave a campus tour to a couple dozen incoming freshmen. There was a young man in a wheelchair in the group who chatted with me all morning and never stopped smiling. He had a positive energy about him that was absolutely contagious. At the end of the tour I found out he had a scholarship to play basketball before a car accident left him with disfigured legs. He told me, “It didn’t ruin my life, it just changed my circumstances. I’m happy to be here with you right now, with so many opportunities in front of me.”

Talk about a healthy way of looking at your life, and living it, even when it’s hard.

Let this young man’s perspective be your wake-up call today.

When you think better about your circumstances, you live better in spite of them.

And this holds true for your everyday circumstances too, not just the really hard ones. When faced with long check-out lines, traffic jams, or waiting an hour past your appointment time, you have two choices: You can get frustrated and enraged, or you can THINK BETTER and view it as life’s way of giving you a guilt-free breather from the chaos—a little extra space to just be. The first choice will raise your blood pressure. The second choice will raise your consciousness.

THINKING BETTER truly is a universal medicine, which is exactly why we made the process of doing so the foundation of our only in-person event of 2017. We lined up 16 world-class experts that we HAND PICKED from hundreds of top authorities on happiness, simple living and productivity.
