There are so many questions about love it’s impossible to keep track of them all. But in the end, there really is only one question that both young and old couples really want to ask: How can I make my relationship last?

No one goes into a relationship looking to get a divorce. They want to know the secrets on how to do the exact opposite. Here’s how to make your relationship last the test of time:

  1. Love yourself first

Learning to love yourself will enhance your feelings towards your spouse. Why? Well, if you neglect to love yourself, you may start to feel like you are not worth loving. You will forget your self-worth. You’ll start an endless routine of Netflix and sweatpants and feel like you don’t have a purpose. Not loving yourself can affect your spouse much more than you realized.

How can I love myself more?

When was the last time you looked into a mirror and reminded yourself of your good qualities? Try doing this every morning before leaving the house and see how you feel throughout the day.

  1. Don’t get too attached when you are lonely

When you love yourself, you don’t mind being alone because you have confidence in your ability to get out there and make friends. When you are lonely, that is a different story. You are vulnerable, miserable and in desperate need of attention. Whether you are married or in search for your better half, do not succumb to loneliness. If your relationship is only working because you are lonely and want someone to comfort you, then you really aren’t in it for the right reasons.

Analyze your relationship and determine whether you actually love your spouse, or if you are just avoiding the loneliness in your life. Getting to the foundation of your relationship helps you both figure out how to make it last.

A wise man once told me, “You choose how you feel. People can say and believe whatever they want to. They can say whatever they want to try and tear you down, but only you have the power to let them”.

Happiness is contagious. It is almost impossible not to spread, and it’s the one infection everyone wants. Bring love and happiness in your marriage by choosing to spread all the joy you have. A happy marriage is one that lasts.

  • Don’t let the words and actions of others determine how you feel.
  • Meditate.
  • Exercise with your spouse.
  • Practice a hobby that you enjoy.
  • Tell the people you love how you feel about them.
  • Accept that you cannot control everything.

Once you have found the thing that makes you happy, keep doing it. Invite your husband to join you. Decide to spread happiness instead of negativity in your lives.

It shows that you both are working through your challenges to find a solution.
