7 Prayers for the Hurting Wife

7 Prayers for the Hurting Wife

By Mike & Carlie Kercheval

You never know how much a wife may be hurting until you can understand what’s going on in her life, head, and heart. If you are a hurting wife who has experienced trauma, betrayal, loss, or the like, below are several scriptures and prayers you can declare, decree, and pray over yourself. If you are the husband of a hurting wife, you can also pray these over your spouse. The primary thing to keep in mind is that God’s Word is powerful and it can help heal any pain experienced and felt by hurting wives.

7 Prayers for the Hurting Wife

Restoration of a sound mind, body, and spirit is attainable even after being hurt. Perhaps someone said something harsh or an affair or loss happened… Even if you find yourself at the end of your rope and it doesn’t seem like you could ever be the same, remember this scripture and prayer:

But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’ (Jeremiah 30:17)

Lord, I pray for total restoration in my life. Heal my brokenness and wounds. Wash my dry areas with Your living water. Restore me to the joy of my salvation. I thank You in advance for restoring my life to the original way You created it. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Refilled with Grace

It’s easy to lose track of God’s saving grace and mercy. Depending on the needs of the hurting wife, she may see herself as condemned. If you (or your wife) feel this way, remember:

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Jesus, I am reminded that Your grace is sufficient for me, but help me to truly embrace the power that lies behind that. I want to know, trust and believe that my power is made perfect in weakness and that it points even more to Your power in my life. Help me to truly understand this truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Fullness of Joy

As briefly mentioned in the prayer above, we can ask for God to restore us to the joy of our salvation so we can experience the fullness of it. If you (or your wife) are experiencing a depleted joy tank, think and pray on this scripture:

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (Psalm 16:11)

Heavenly Father, fill me with the joy in your presence. Make known to me the path of life, especially in hurting times when I cannot see clearly. Lead me through the paths of healing and help me to experience the fullness of your joy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

We can become extra vulnerable when experiencing any kind of hurt, grief, and/or sorrow. This is why it’s so important that a prayer of protection is prayed over the hurting wife. Here is scripture and prayer to help with just that:

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings from the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me. (Psalm 17:8-9)

Lord, You know better than I that during a time of hurt and pain, Your children are at one of their most vulnerable states. I confess that I need Your protection. Hide me in the shadow of Your wings so that the wiles of the enemy do not come near me. I praise You and thank You for this supernatural covering. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

When you are hurting, it can be some of the most exhausting times. It’s important to get the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual rest that’s needed.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Father, I come to You asking for the kind of rest that only You can give. Your Word says I can come to You, especially because I am weary and burdened. I praise You for energizing me and giving me a sound spirit and mind. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Clean Heart

If there’s one thing hurt can do, it can cause bitterness, resentment, and a host of other negative things. Praying for a clean heart will also help the hurting wife not to bring more pain and sorrow upon herself.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)

God, I confess that I don’t want my hurt to cause negative feelings and emotions to take root in my heart. To prevent this from happening, I pray that You would create in me a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Total Healing

Even the most devastating life event isn’t too difficult for God to heal and restore. If you (or your hurting wife) have found yourself (or herself) at your (or her) most broken place, these words should offer encouragement:

Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. (Psalm 30:2)

Lord, I know I can call upon You for help. So I ask that You would heal me. You possess all healing power and I believe and proclaim the promise that You will do so. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Final Thoughts

These prayers for the hurting wife are just a snippet of what can be declared and decreed over your life. Start by reading, praying, and meditating over these truths, and then begin taking the action steps to see them come alive in your life. We’re praying and believing in healing for you.
